{"id":303,"date":"2015-03-15T19:11:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-15T19:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/?p=303"},"modified":"2017-07-15T15:23:25","modified_gmt":"2017-07-15T15:23:25","slug":"2-types-of-conceptual-glitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/?p=303","title":{"rendered":"2 types of conceptual glitch\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Circuit-bent jigsaw has 2 purposes:<\/p>\n<p>1) to mirror the processes involved in glitch art and thus create\u00a0<em>aesthetic glitch<\/em>\u00a0images through randomisation, and<\/p>\n<p>2) to put into place the conditions under which true\u00a0<em>conceptual glitch,<\/em>\u00a0i.e. unplanned accidents, could occur and possibly be recorded in the images.<\/p>\n<p>At times, I have felt like a physicist deep underground, waiting to observe and document an elusive particle that exists up to now only in theory.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the 6 jigsaw generations, two types of glitch were observed:<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, the glitches as a result of a manufacturing anomaly seen at B36 (#2 &amp; #5) and X5 (#4) and X6 (#3), as described\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/?p=158\/\">the post mentioned above<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, in #3, the glitch at\u00a0B20. \u00a0This occurred only once across the 6 performances.\u00a0 In short, because of the irregularities around the centre line (again, explanation in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/?p=158\/\">this post<\/a>) there are possible \u201cbig versions\u201d and \u201csmall versions\u201d of all of those pieces bordering the 20\/21 columns (just as is seen on the jagged edges of each jigsaw). \u00a0On this occasion, a perfect storm occurred in which all of the surrounding large versions were chosen, \u00a0encircling the B20 grid position, making it too small to enter the piece. \u00a0Information rejected. \u00a0Dead pixel.<\/p>\n<p>#3 is the only jigsaw to contain both types of glitch:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-304 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/2types.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/2types.jpg 800w, http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/2types-300x211.jpg 300w, http:\/\/geraintedwards.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/2types-768x540.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Circuit-bent jigsaw has 2 purposes: 1) to mirror the processes involved in glitch art and thus create\u00a0aesthetic glitch\u00a0images through randomisation, and 2) to put into place the conditions under which true\u00a0conceptual glitch,\u00a0i.e. unplanned accidents, could occur and possibly be recorded in the images.
